‘Grand Slam’ for Gouden Carolus Single Malt: wins again – gold and silver!

Global Spirits Masters 2015: Gold
International Wine & Spirit Competition 2015: Silver

Gouden Carolus Single Malt from the Molenberg distillery won a gold medal in the category ‘World Whisky – Europe: Single Malt Super Premium’ the very first time it took part in the Global Spirits Masters.

The ‘Global Spirits Masters’ was launched in the UK in 2008. Every year, an independent jury made up of journalists and professionals from the world of whisky and spirits samples and tests entries from all four corners of the world in a blind tasting session. Each whisky is judged on its own merits in the chosen category.

The results are published annually in the authoritative magazine ‘The Spirits Business’.

At the annual International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), Gouden Carolus Single Malt again won a silver medal in the category ‘Worldwide Whisky’, confirming the silver obtained in 2014.

The IWSC was launched in the UK in 1969 and is one of the world’s most prestigious competitions. It consists of two parts: the entries are first tasted blind by an experienced panel of jury members from the drinks sector. The winning entries then undergo a technical analysis before the results are announced.

Charles Leclef, 5th generation owner:
“This is another fantastic result. After two earlier medals in 2014, these gold and silver awards mean an undreamed-of four in a row. We really have won a ‘grand slam’ with our Belgian whisky! (Four consecutive medals in as many international competitions).

I started this project with the aim of putting a unique, Belgian quality whisky with a pronounced and balanced character on the market. These latest distinctions encourage us to carry on along our chosen path.”

Gouden Carolus Single Malt is a refined whisky distilled from the mash of the Gouden Carolus Tripel beer. The ensuing ageing in classic Bourbon casks followed by further ageing in Het Anker casks (wooden barrels made by a barrel maker in accordance with our own specifications) results in a refined whisky with a full and balanced taste. The subtle fruit aromas are enhanced by touches of wood and vanilla.
